Typography can be identified as an art and technique used for placing text in a manner that is attractive visually and readable. Typography involves selecting and organizing typefaceadjusting faces, and designing certain layouts that will help effectively communicate information (Interaction Design Foundation, 2016). In China, typography has a long history dating back thousands of years. Chinese characters are pictographic symbols that allow people to communicate and exchange with each other (Huang, 2023). Typography is considered a central aspect of graphic design, digital media, advertising, and others. The diverse ethnic groups in China incorporate their perspectives with the mainstream Chinese culture making typography the medium. This essay aims to reflect on how Chinese culture has evolved with the proper representation of ethnic groups through texts and graphic designs. This essay will argue that the traditional national culture of China is maintained even within the modern cultural practices and designs. This essay outlines firstly, a history of the typography that was visible in China throughout history till the modern days; secondly, the existence of the diverse ethnic groups and cultures in China that increases the diversity and national identity; and finally, the reaffirmation of the traditional Chinese culture within the modern Chinese culture including the representation of the ethnic groups. This study uses a collated format for a better understanding of Chinese culture through diverse ethnic perspectives.
